You may be thinking about having your Chicago hardwood floors refinished but maybe you are wondering if it would be possible to stay around and even sleep in your home during the process. Yes, it is possible to still live at home during this time with a few restrictions.
When the finishes are applied and drying, you normally will not be able to have access to those areas for at least 8 hours, especially if you use oil-based finishes. If you use water-based finish you may be able to access the area sooner as these finishes tend to dry a lot quicker than their oil-based cousins.
Once the finish coat is applied, for the protection of the floor and to ensure a dirt free and smooth finish, it is best to have the areas being finished out of bounds for 24 hours to ensure a top quality job. This can pose a bit of a problem if the areas you are having restored are hallways or are areas that you need to access for bedrooms, the kitchen or washrooms etc. If this is the case, or if you are having your entire house refinished, it may be best to stay somewhere else for a few nights.
If you are sensitive to the hardwood floor refinishing products, it also may be better not to sleep overnight while they are drying. We also suggest that any pets, especially sensitive ones like birds and parrots, are looked after off site during the refinishing process.
Most hardwood restoration companies can arrange to coat the Chicago hardwood floors in the morning so the drying takes place during the day; or at the end of the day so they dry overnight. It can be a bit of a hassle during this small period but the results you will be able to see from your beautiful newly restored hardwood floors will definitely be worth it.
